Thinking about booking an engagement photoshoot? Discover 4 reasons to have a pre-wedding session and get to know your wedding photographer before the big day.
Congratulations! You're engaged! It's such an exciting time, and it can be easy to feel a little overwhelmed with everything you need to think about next. So, I'm here to help as much as I can along the way!
Everyone knows how important it is to have a wedding photographer to capture your big day, but have you thought about having an engagement photoshoot or pre-wedding session beforehand?
Whether you've just got engaged, are planning a proposal, or are already counting down the days until your wedding, an engagement photoshoot is a lovely way to capture this exciting chapter of your lives.
There are lots of reasons to book an engagement session with your wedding photographer, and I'm going to share a few of my favourites to help you decide whether it's something you'd like to do.
1. It's a chance for us to get to know each other
You've booked me as your wedding photographer because you probably liked my work and thought I seemed like an alright person! Or perhaps you haven't booked your wedding photographer yet and would like to start with a pre-wedding session to see if we're a good fit.
Either way, we don't really know each other yet! An engagement photoshoot gives us the opportunity to spend some time together, get to know each other a little better, and for you to see how I work behind the camera.
By the time your wedding day comes around, I'll feel a little less like someone you've just hired and a little more like a familiar face. And hopefully, you'll feel much more comfortable having me there to photograph all those special moments.
2. Beautiful photos to remember this season of your lives
Getting engaged is such a special time, and it's lovely to have photographs that you can look back on and remember it all.
If I'm photographing your actual proposal, you'll have photographs of that wonderful surprise to treasure forever. But even if you've already popped the question, an engagement session is a great way to capture this season of your relationship before you get married.
You can also use your engagement photos for your save the dates, wedding invitations, or even around your home.
Most of my wedding photography packages include a memory box with prints, too. I think it's so important to print your photographs rather than leaving them on your phone or laptop. Otherwise, they can often just sit there in digital form and never really get looked at or appreciated in the way printed photographs do.
3. It's a fun date idea!
At the end of the day, it's just you and your favourite person spending some time together in a beautiful location.
Sometimes it's tricky to keep thinking up new ideas for dates, and we end up just sitting around watching TV (don't get me wrong, sometimes this is great!). But why not take the opportunity to do something a little different?
We can choose somewhere meaningful to you both, explore a beautiful location, and capture some lovely photographs along the way. I promise to help you forget about the camera and just enjoy hanging out with your favourite person.
Whether that's wandering along the beach, exploring somewhere in London, or visiting a place that's special to the two of you, your engagement photoshoot can be a really lovely experience.
4. Get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day
Wedding days can come with lots of extra stresses and things to think about, and that's one of the reasons I really recommend booking an engagement photoshoot before your big day.
This way, you'll already know how I work, and I'll have had the chance to show you a few different ways to pose and move in front of the camera. You won't be hearing my directions for the first time on your wedding day, and you'll have a much better idea of what to expect.
You might feel a little awkward or unsure about having your photograph taken at first (which is completely normal!), but by the end of your session, hopefully you'll realise that it's not nearly as scary as you thought!
One less thing to worry about on your wedding day is definitely worth it.
So, shall we plan your engagement photoshoot?
Okay, so hopefully I've convinced you to book a pre-wedding session! Or, if you're planning a proposal, perhaps a proposal photoshoot instead!
Whether you're looking for an engagement photographer in London or somewhere else across the UK, I'd love to hear what you have in mind.
Get in touch and tell me a little about your plans. I'd love to hear all about your proposal ideas, where you're thinking of having your engagement photos taken, or what you're planning for your wedding so far.
